Butterfly Cookies

My mind wanders as I sit on our balcony late at night and sip a hot cup of green tea. The air is cool and it’s quiet except for the soft sound of music. (My musical preferences of the night are The Civil Wars, David Bazan and Mumford & Sons.) As I sit here and allow my brain to take over, I think about how incredibly and unbelievably lucky I really am to have people like this in my life:

Today was a great day despite the fact that it should have been Jeanette’s 21st birthday. I suppose life doesn’t always go the way that we expect it to, eh? While I could have sat and thought about how unfair it is that she was so young or how I would have changed a number of things about the days before her death, I decided that it would have done me absolutely no good.

Instead, we celebrated.

We celebrated the fact that Jeanette was so full of life and love and that we were able to be a small part of each other’s lives.
We celebrated that we have an outrageous amount of life to look forward to.
We celebrated each other and the love that God has shown us by blessing us with each other.
We celebrated with homemade sugar cookies, frosting and laughter.

I can’t imagine a better way to spend a day like today.
