Butterfly Cookies

My mind wanders as I sit on our balcony late at night and sip a hot cup of green tea. The air is cool and it’s quiet except for the soft sound of music. (My musical preferences of the night are The Civil Wars, David Bazan and Mumford & Sons.) As I sit here and allow my brain to take over, I think about how incredibly and unbelievably lucky I really am to have people like this in my life:

Today was a great day despite the fact that it should have been Jeanette’s 21st birthday. I suppose life doesn’t always go the way that we expect it to, eh? While I could have sat and thought about how unfair it is that she was so young or how I would have changed a number of things about the days before her death, I decided that it would have done me absolutely no good.

Instead, we celebrated.

We celebrated the fact that Jeanette was so full of life and love and that we were able to be a small part of each other’s lives.
We celebrated that we have an outrageous amount of life to look forward to.
We celebrated each other and the love that God has shown us by blessing us with each other.
We celebrated with homemade sugar cookies, frosting and laughter.

I can’t imagine a better way to spend a day like today.

FIFA

Oh-- and one more thing. I'm excited for this:

new

Blogger and I took a break for a little while. Things were complicated between us and we needed time apart. But, we are back together once again. We are just meant to be.

Here are a few things that are new and that you're dying to know:

1. My own apartment. Who knew not living in Southeast Fresno could be good? Honestly, I miss hearing the gun shots followed by sirens as well as the mariachi music blasting from Vallarta but Central Fresno has been gracious.

2. UNEMPLOYMENT. Let's face it. It's freaking fabulous and I have quickly adapted to my role as housewife and mother. In the past week, I have sewn a skirt and fixed a dress, cycled through many loads of dishes and laundry, made lunch for the roomie, ironed clothes for work (Of course, these were NOT clothes for me or my job.), gone grocery shopping a few times, read a book, watered my flowers... the list goes on. Despite my inner (and more often outer) feminist, I'm loving every minute of it.

3. A College Degree. Wait-- what? Serious? I didn't know that the day would actually come. It's been real, Fresno Pacific.

In other and incredibly more exciting/important news, President Obama signed the Lord’s Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act of 2009 yesterday. Essentially, the United States made it law to stop a man and his army from kidnapping and forcing children into war and slavery. This video explains it best:
